A Narrative Review on Evaluation of Hypercoagulability State in Severe Covid-19 Patients with Background Risk Factors

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) can induce coagulopathy at the base of sepsis-induced coagulopathy (SIC), which is an important cause of death in these patients. Cytokine storm causes imbalance in coagulation and fibrinolytic system. A combination of hypercoagulability state, decrease or inhibition of fibrinolysis and endotheliopathy causes thromboembolic events. Underlying diseases such as diab...

Diagnosis of thromboembolic disease: Combined ventilation perfusion lung scan and compression ultrasonography

The clinical management of pulmonary embolism and deep venous thrombosis of the legs are similar and requires prolonged anticoagulation therapy. The standard diagnostic approach in patients suspected of pulmonary embolism is ventilation-perfusion (V/Q) lung scan and compression ultrasonography to detect deep venous thrombosis. This retrospective study analyzed the role of V/Q lung scan an...

Increased thromboembolic events after lung transplantation.

BACKGROUND Lung transplantation is a good therapeutic option for end-stage lung disease. Data on thromboembolic complications following lung transplantation are scarce. STUDY OBJECTIVES To evaluate the incidence of thromboembolic events following lung transplantation, and to determine their possible association with hypercoagulable state. DESIGN Retrospective study in a single, tertiary-car...

Hypercoagulability in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting: prevalence, patient characteristics and postoperative outcome.

OBJECTIVES To investigate the prevalence of preoperative hypercoagulability assessed by thromboelastography (TEG), to identify patient characteristics associated with hypercoagulability and to explore whether hypercoagulability is associated with a greater risk for myocardial infarction (MI), stroke and mortality 30 days after coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) surgery. METHODS This is a ...
